Publishing House Founder Called Away In Death at Scottdale

AARON LOUCKS, MENNONITE CHURCH LEADER AND PUBLISHER, DIED AUGUST 20

Scottdale, Pa. — Bishop Aaron Loucks, nationally known leader in the Mennonite church and founder of the Mennonite Publishing house here, was called to his eternal reward on Monday, August 20.

It was largely through his vision of a strong church publishing enterprise that the merger of the Gospel Witness Company, the Mennonite Book and Tract Society, both of Scottdale, and the Mennonite Publishing Company of Elkhart, Ind., was effected under the ownership of the Mennonite Publication Board.

Ordained in 1892, Bishop Loucks was a minister in the Mennonite church for over a half century and held the office of bishop for nearly 50 years. For some considerable time he has been inactive because of advanced age and ill health.
