JOHN I. LOEWEN

John I. Loewen was born Jan. 14, 1895 in Cottonwood County, Mountain Lake, Minn. In 1900, he moved with his parents to the Saskatoon, Sask. area where his parents homesteaded. He purchased the farm in 1926 and lived there until 1948. He sold the farm the same year and moved with his family to Chilliwack, British Columbia.

In 1954 he joined the staff at Simpson Bible College which was then located in Seattle, Wash. He was deeply involved in the move of the college to San Francisco the following year and shared in the early development in the new location. He retired from Simpson's employ in 1958, residing temporarily in Olympia, Wash. and finally in Chilliwack, B. C. in 1963.

Mr. Loewen was baptized on confession of his faith in Christ in 1916 and was received in the fellowship of the Evangelical Mennonite Brethren Church in Dalmeny, Sask. He later associated himself with the Christian Missionary Alliance Church of which he was a member to the end. He was married to Agnes Dirks in 1917, to which union were born two sons and five daughters.

To be able to work hard was always a delight to Mr. Loewen and he always sought for perfection. He was privileged to remain active almost to the end. On March 26th of this year he was admitted to the Chilliwack General Hospital due to a severe heart attack. He was permitted to return home about four weeks later. He was able to be about the house and called on friends when he felt strong enough. He passed away on Wednesday morning, Sept. 14.

He is survived by his wife Agnes; two sons, William of Upland, Ind. and Norman of Vancouver, B. C.; five daughters, Mrs. Eldean Friesen of Langham, Sask., Mrs. Lorean Tieszen of San Fransisco [sic Francisco], Mrs. Eldora Negrych of LaCombe, Alberta, Mrs. Delora Friesen and Mrs. Melinda Wirch of Vancouver, B. C.; 18 grandchildren; two sisters and five brothers. His parents, one sister, one brother and one grandchild preceded him in death.

Mr. Loewen will always be remembered for his great interest in spiritual matters, for his loyalty to his Lord and the church.
