Dean of Buenos Aires Seminary Dies After Undergoing Surgery

Goshen, Ind. — Family members here received word that John Timothy Nelson Litwiller, 43, dean and rector of the Union Theological Seminary in Buenos Aires, Argentina, died several days after undergoing corrective surgery in a Buenos Aires hospital. The surgery was to correct some effects of injuries sustained in a traffic accident in 1954.

Mr. Litwiller was the son of Rev. and Mrs. Nelson Litwiller, long-time missionaries in South America now residing in Goshen. A graduate of Goshen College and holder of a master's degree from Yale Divinity School, he had spent some years in mission and educational work in South America.

Surviving in addition to the parents are his widow, the former Mary Ann Troyer; two sons, Nelson and John, both students at Wooster College (Ohio); a daughter, Anne Marie, at home; and four sisters, Mrs. Albert Buckewalter of Goshen, Mrs. Ismael Gonzales of New Haven, Mrs. Daniel Miller of Akron, Pa., and Mrs. James Schertz of Low Point, Ill.

A memorial service was held at the College Mennonite Church on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 5. Giving testimonies were Mario Bustos, James Kratz, J. Lawrence Burkholder and John Howard Yoder.
