Edward H. Linscheid

An active life, influential in the Arlington, Kans., community, has come to a sudden close. Edward H. Linscheid, son of John P. and Katherine Linscheid was 42 years of age last march 26. His unexpected death was a shock to all who knew him familiarly as "Eddie", He slipped away quietly at his home on Sunday, Feb. 20,at 1:00 p.m.

Practically his entire life was spent in the Arlington community. His education in the local schools was supplemented by further study at Reno County high school and Bethel academy, where he graduated with the class of 1916. He also had special vocational training at the Kansas State College at Manhattan and at Charles City, Iowa. His interest in education, secular and religious continued through life. The high Christian ideals of Bethel College claimed his unwavering devotion.

On June 7, 1908, Edward was baptized upon confession of faith by the late Rev. John P. Miller of Hanston and became a member of the church whose spiritual growth he continually strove to foster.

He was married on August 12, 1919, to Selma Riesen, who was his devoted companion and constant help-mate for nearly nineteen years. The home which they established had an open door for all who came.

Eddie was glad to serve, whenever called, in the home, the church and the neighborhood. For many years he was entrusted with positions of responsibility in his church and in the larger program of the Reno County Council of Religious Education. He looked upon these tasks as well as upon those connected with his daily work as opportunities to share with others life's deeper meanings.

Immediate members of the family who feel most deeply his sudden passing are: his wife, two sisters, Elizabeth of Boulder, Colorado, Emma of Sylvia, Kansas; and three brothers, John E. of Newton, Kansas, Alfred G. of Cleveland, Ohio, and Peter R. of Attica, Kansas.

Funeral services were held at the Arlington Mennonite church on Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 23. The services at the home at 1:20 o'clock were conducted by Dr. P. B. Goertz of Bethel College, while the services at the church were in charge of Rev. J. N. Smucker, pastor of the Bethel College congregation, and the local pastor, Rev. Geo. Kopper. Special music was given by the Bethel College quartet and by Mrs. E. J. Linscheid of Newton.

Interment took place in the cemetery near the church.
