Berne, Ind. — Funeral services were conducted at the First Mennonite Church here on Feb. 19 for James E. Liechty, 46, well-known auctioneer and leader in the business life of the Berne community.

Mr. Liechty suffered a fatal heart attack Feb. 16 at the Adams County Memorial Hospital. He had been admitted to the hospital for observation earlier the same day after complaining of not feeling well the day before.

A native of this community, he was a part-time instructor at a Decatur auctioneering school and conducted weekly auto auctions at Grand Rapids and Flint, Mich. He was a member of state and national auctioneers associations.

Other business interests included home building and operation of a mobile home court here. As secretary-treasurer of the Berne area development committee, he helped bring new industries here.
