CHRISTIAN LICHTI

Christian C. Lichti was born on Feb. 7, 1882 in Gelsheim [sic Gelchsheim], Germany and departed this life on Oct. 17, 1963 at the age of 81 years, eight months and 17 days. He came to the United States in 1889 and to California in 1905.

On Sept. 20, 1908 he was married to Frieda Warnholz in Paso Robles. From there they moved to Upland where they established their home and continued to live here until his passing. He was a citrus pruner and had many friends among the citrus growers. Eight children were born to this union.

Mr. and Mrs. Lichti were involved in a car accident on Aug. 23 near Santa Barbara. At first his injuries did not seem so severe and hope was held for his recovery. But his condition grew steadily worse. Several paralytic strokes and a weakened heart finally contributed to his demise.

Survivors are his widow, three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Dawding of Ontario, Mrs. Don Schowalter of Cucamonga and Mrs. Henry Barber of Monclair; three sons, Arthur, Albert and Menno, all of Upland; 17 grandchildren, and a brother Paul of Yacaipa, Calif.

Funeral rites were conducted by Pastor David Habegger at the First Mennonite Church where he was a member since coming to Upland. Interment followed in the Bellevue Cemetery.
