Catherine Lenzmann

Catherine Lenzmann of Winnipeg passed away Feb. 8. She was born June 10, 1907 to Nikolai and Maria Wiens in Lindenhof, southern Russia. At age 5 she lost her father. The family moved to Kiptschak, Crimea. At 12, she accepted Christ. Three years later she was baptized and received into the MB church. In 1925 the family immigrated to Manitoba. She attended Winkler (Man.) Bible School 1931-35. Here she met Herman Lenzmann. They married Dec. 30, 1935. They went to the Belgian Congo as missionaries, but were forced to return in 1939 for health reasons. In 1941 they moved to B.C. He taught in Greendale Bible School for a year. They moved to Yarrow, where they served in the Bible school and in the leadership of the local MB church for 18 years. They moved to Winkler, where they served in the same capacity for 8 years. In 1968 they returned to B.C., where they pastored Clearbrook MB Church and later pastored part-time in Broadway MB Church, Chilliwack. In 1981 they retired to Winnipeg. She served in Sunday school and ladies' fellowship and assisted her husband in pastoral work, entertaining many visitors, assisting in home visitation and supporting the work in prayer. She is remembered as a praying mother, greatly concerned about the spiritual welfare of her family. Predeceased by 3 brothers and 2 sisters, she is survived by her husband; children Mary-Emma Braun of Calgary, Elvira Lysack of Winnipeg, Luella Pauls of St. Catharines, Edwin of Winnipeg and Irene Warkentin of Winnipeg; 17 grandchildren and 1 sister. The funeral was Feb. 12 in North Kildonan MB Church, Winnipeg, with John Epp and William Neufeld ministering.
