MISS SETCHEN LEISY

Funeral services for Miss Setchen Leisy, Aberdeen, Idaho, were conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in the home and at 2:30 at the First Mennonite church Aberdeen, by Rev. H. N. Harder, pastor of the church, assisted by Rev. F. L. Garrison, pastor of the Assemblies of God, Aberdeen.

Alden Toevs, organist of the First Mennonite church, played familiar tunes loved by the departed. A quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Hege, Mrs. Maurice Wedel and Edwin Becker sang "My God and I" and "Marvelous Grace." Rev. Leonard Leisy of Shelly, Idaho and Rev. Albert Leisy of Firth, Idaho sang "The Love of God." Richard and Arthur Leisy, Gordon and Rolland Toevs, Maurice Wedel and Earl Moser served as pallbearers. The committal services were in charge of her pastor. The Davies Mortuary of American Falls directed the burial in the Homestead cemetery.

The two living brothers and three sisters were present at the services.

Once again we have seen a fulfillment of the prayer of our Lord and Savior, when He said: "Father, I will that they whom thou hast given me be where I am; that they may behold my glory which thou hast given me; for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world." John 17:24.

Miss Setchen Leisy was taken from this world to a better place, into the mansions prepared for her in glory by her Savior. There she is forevermore to behold His glory and to share with Him the blessings and happiness of the saints in light.

She was born September 26, 1884, in Wisner, Nebraska to Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Leisy, where she enjoyed the blessings of a Christian home. In 1902 she was baptized upon the confession of faith in Jesus Christ as her personal Savior by the late Rev. Christian Kaufman, of Freeman, South Dakota, and united with the Mennonite church. On March 5, 1916, she united with the First Mennonite church of Aberdeen where she remained a faithful member to the end of her life.

In 1903 she was graduated from the Wisner, Nebraska high school and the following year she attended Bethel college, at Newton, Kansas. After one year of teaching she went to Peru, Nebraska for a year of teacher training. She also spent several summers in various schools in Nebraska, Idaho, and California. She taught five years in Nebraska and 15 years in Aberdeen.

Her mother's health warranted her to give up teaching so she might take care of her aging mother.

On September 13, 1948, she submitted to a major operation at the Mayo Brothers Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, from which she never fully recovered. During her long suffering the Lord became very real and precious to her. In her obituary notes she stated that she was looking forward to going home to see the Lord who had meant so much to her. She departed this life September 12, 1950, at 9:15 a. m. in her home.

Her father preceded her in death June 20, 1901, also four brothers: Oscar Rudolf in 1949, Eugene in 1935, Henry August 1880, and Robert Edmond in 1945.

Miss Setchen Leisy was a faithful and active Christian. For many years she was the superintendent of the Cradle Roll Department of the Sunday School, and taught S. S. and held various elective officers in the Women's Mission Society.

She is survived by her aged mother, Mrs. Lizzie Leisy, 94, of Aberdeen; five sisters, Minna (Mrs. John Stauffer) of Wisner, Nebraska, Pauline (Mrs. F. H. Schowalter) of Halstead, Kansas, Miss Augusta Leisy of Aberdeen, Dora (Mrs. Haury) of Halstead, and Lyda (Mrs. Alfred Wedel) of Aberdeen; and two brothers, Albert of Aberdeen and August Otto of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and a host of relatives and friends.
