Two Indiana Youths Killed in Highway, Hunting Accidents

Goshen, Ind. — Two young men lost their lives in separate accidents in the Nappanee vicinity within less than a week.

A squirrel hunting trip early Monday morning, Sept. 20, proved fatal to John Edward Leichty, 17-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John S. Leichty of rural Wakarusa and a 1965 graduate of Bethany Christian High School.

The youth ans a companion, Donald Nunemaker, had gone northeast of Nappanee to hunt when the former's shotgun accidentally discharged, the charge hitting him in the head.

Funeral services were held Sept. 22 at the Olive Mennonite Church, of which he was a member.

Last Friday evening 16-year_old Melvin L. Chupp of rural Nappanee drove his horse and buggy onto US-6 and was hit by a semi-tractor trailer. The buggy was demolished, the horse killed, and the Amish lad died several hours later at Elkhart Hospial. His parents and [sic] Mr. and Mrs. Amos Chupp.
