MATHILDA M. LEHMANN

Mathilda M. Lehmann was born Nov. 22, 1881 in Quedlinburg, Germany, and died May 4, 1962 in a nursing home in Hydro, Okla. at the age of 80 years, five months and 12 days. She was the daughter of Robert and Mathilda Miller Lehmann.

In 1890 the family emigrated to the U.S.A. where, after living some years in western Kansas and near Aurora, Mo., they settled on a farm north of Geary, Okla. Here she spent the major part of her life. On April 5, 1901 she was baptized on her confession of faith by Elder J. S. Krehbiel, and became a member of the First Mennonite Church of Geary. She retained this membership until her death.

After the death of her parents, she remained on the farm engaging in the raising of chickens and the production of eggs. A brother also preceded her in death. She was well acquainted with the rigors and hardships of early pioneer life and she carried on her work in the lonely solitude of her small farm.

She found great joy in her work in Sunday school and church. Her skill in handwork was gratly appreciated in her work with the Ladies Missionary Society. About a year ago she suffered a stroke. After spending some time in the hospital she was removed to the nursing home.

She leaves to mourn her death two nephews, Herman Lehman and his wife Helen of Geary, and Robert Lehman and his wife Anita and their families, besides other relatives and friends. -- The Family.
