Mt. Lake Business Man Crushed By Elevator

QUENTIN C. LEHMAN, 54, WAS ACTIVE IN CHURCH AND COMMUNITY

Mountain Lake, Minn. — This community was saddened by the sudden accidental death of Quinten [sic Quentin] C. Lehman, 54, community leader and manager of the Basinger Hotel here the past 25 years who was instantly killed when crushed under the elevator at the hotel on July 16.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 20, at the Bethel Mennonite Church and were widely attended. Rev. Willard Wiebe officiated.

Mr. Lehman apparently stopped the elevator at the first floor of the hotel and went into the basement pit to make some adjustments in the electrical connections. His body was found several hours later under the two-ton elevator, which had descended into the pit. His brother-in-law, Dr. Harvey R. Basinger, was summoned and said death was apparently instantaneous due to a fractured skill [sic].

A native of Pandora, Ohio, Mr. Lehman was married there to Vera Basinger on July 25, 1926. They came to Mt. Lake in 1931. He was active in the Bethel church and in a number of community organizations.

QUINTUS [sic QUENTIN] C. LEHMAN

Quentin C. Lehman, son of Gideon and Sarah Luginbuhl Lehman, was born July 14, 1904 in Pandora, Ohio, and met accidental death on July 9, 1958. He reached the age of almost 54 years.

He grew to manhood in Pandora and attended both the local grammar and high schools there. He was baptized on his confession of faith and united with the St. John Mennonite church.

His marriage to Vera Basinger took place on July 25, 1926. To this union three children were born; Pauline Ann and Roger at Pandora, Ohio, and Charles at Mt. Lake. The family came to Mt. Lake, Minn. in 1931 to make this their future home and to be associated with the Basinger Enterprize [sic], of which he served as general manager for 25 years.

Since coming to Mt. Lake, Quentin has become a leader in many civic activities. He was a member of the local Rotary club and served as its president, the Community Club, the Parent-Teachers Association, and served on the board of the Minnesota Valley Area boy Scouts. He united with the Bethel Mennonite church in Mt. Lake and took an active part and interest in its various activities, being a member of the men's chorus, a function which he greatly enjoyed.

Tragedy marred the happy life of the family five years ago when their daughter, Pauline Ann, met death in an airplane crash at New Delhi, India, while en route home from Rangoon, Burma, after teaching school there on a Fulbright Fellowship.

Quentin is survived by his wife, Vera, his two sons, Roger and Charles of Mt. Lake, two grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Inez Haas, Pandora, Ohio, and Mrs. Eudora Soldner, Bluffton, Ohio, and a host of relatives and friends. He was a highly respected and dearly beloved resident of the community, and his ready smile and cheery disposition will be sadly missed by all.

Services were held at the Bethel Mennonite Church on Sunday, July 13, with Rev. Willard Wiebe officiating and the Rev. G. T. Soldner of Bluffton, Ohio assisting. Interment was at the Mt. Lake cemetery.
