. . .

— A serious automobile accident occurred two miles west and one and three-quarters north of Halstead into last Sunday night, in which Melvin Lehman was almost instantly killed. Quinton Welty, Herbert Welty and Melvin had spent the evening in Halstead, and the Welty boys were taking Melvin to his home as the accident occurred. The lights on the Ford failed soon after the boys had left Halstead and in their attempt to drive home without lights the car struck a banister of a culvert about four miles northwest. Melvin’s throat was cut nearly from ear to ear as he was thrown through the windshield, and he died almost instantly. The other boys were not severely injured.
