— Funeral services for John W. Lehman, 88, long time resident of the Halstead community, were held Tuesday, Sept. 3, at the First Mennonite Church of Halstead. Dr. D. C. Wedel of North Newton officiated. Mr. Lehman died Aug. 29 at Long Beach, Calif. where he had made his home with a daughter, Mrs. Alma Bansmer, for the past 10 years. He was born at Trenton, Ill. and came to Halstead as a child. Surviving in addition to the daughter at Long Beach are a sister, Miss Anna Lehman of Halstead, a brother, Edgar, of Geary, Okla., three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

JOHN W. LEHMAN

John W. Lehman passed away at the home of his grandson, Herman Bansmer, at Long Beach, Calif. on Thursday, August 28, 1957. For the last ten years he had been making his home with his daughter, Mrs. Alma Bansmer in Long Beach.

Mr. Lehman left the Halstead, Kan. community ten years ago, having farmed east of Halstead for many years. He was born on Sept. 2, 1868, at Trenton, Ill. and with his parents came to the Halstead community as a child. He had reached the age of 88 years, 11 months and 26 days. He was married to Miss Emma Schall, his wife passing away in 1939.

Surviving him are his daughter, Mrs. Alma Bansmer of Long Beach; his sister, Miss Anna Lehman of Halstead; a brother, Edgar Lehman of Geary, Okla.; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, together with many friends and other relatives.

He was a long-time member of the Mennonite Church. While living at Halstead he was active in all church affairs and community activities. Even though reaching the age of almost 89 years, he retained a keen mind and remained alert to public affairs. Sociable and friendly, he had a wide circle of friends to the very end.

Memorial services for Mr. Lehman were held in the First Mennonite Church of Halstead on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 3, 1957, at 2:30 o'clock with Dr. D. C. Wedel of North Newton officiating. Patricia DuBois and Margaret Ann Gaeddert sang "It is Well With My Soul" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." The accompanist and organist was Mrs. Harvey Vogt.

He was laid to rest by the side of his wife in the Halstead Cemetery with the directors of the Kaufman-Funeral Home in charge.
