Maria Leatherman

Maria Leatherman, daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Overholt Leatherman, was born January 6, 1865, on the Henry O. Leatherman homestead, near River Styx, Ohio. She resided on this farm all her life, save two years in River Styx, and the last two years with her sister, Minnie Peters. She died April 1, 1941, aged seventy-six years, three months and five days. Her parents, one brother and two sisters preceded her in death.

Surviving her is one foster-daughter, Dorothy Vroman, and one grandchild; one brother, J. H. Leatherman of River Styx; and three sisters, Mrs. Maggie Leatherman of Elkhart, Indiana; and Mrs. Minnie Peters and Elizabeth, of River Styx, and a host of relatives and friends.

She was converted when quite young and in later years joined the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, remaining by example and precept, a faithful Christian to the end, always sacrificing her own wishes and comforts for the welfare of the other numbers of her household. Whether relative or stranger, all were accorded the same kindly hospitality in her home. She was always ready to give to the homeless relative or friend her home as a haven of refuge. Never building upon her good deeds, she sought only to be obedient and merit her Savior's blessings. In her severe illness she exercised all patience to the end.

We express our thanks to the neighbors and friends who assisted in her sickness, death and burial.

By the brother and sisters.
