Margaret Leatherman

Margaret Leatherman, daughter of Jacob F. and Margaret Leatherman, was born in Gulford Twp., Madison Co., Ohio on Sept. 2, 1844. She passed to her eternal reward on May 8, 1937, at the ripe old age of 92 years, 7 months and 6 days, on the same farm near River Styx, where she spent most of her life.

She was never married but lived with and kept house for her youngest brother Manass [sic Mannassas], who was a widower about 30 years and who passed to his reward in January 1929. She stayed with her niece, Mrs. Bougher and family until death.

Margaret was highly respected, quiet member of the community. She was never affiliated with a church, or baptised until the eleventh hour; when she became conscious that she had not the wedding garment on, and could not be saved by good works. She accepted Jesus as her personal savior and was baptised on May 1. She was accepted into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. She passed to her reward one week later. She had a strong constitution and a clear mind to the end.

Margaret was the twelfth child of a family of 14 children, and the last survivor of the family. Her only surviving relatives are nieces and nephews. She also leaves a host of friends to mourn their loss, but not as those who have no hope. Our loss is her gain. She was known as "Aunt Margie."

Funeral services were held May 10 at the Bougher home and at the Sower Mennonite church. She was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery. Officiating ministers were C. G. Burge and Moses Horst.
