Mrs. Fanny Leatherman

Fanny Holdeman was born in McPherson County, Kansas, on her fathers homestead, August 23, 11874. When she was fifteen the family moved to Chase county where they lived for 26 years, and where the entire community felt bereft when Fanny left them to return to the community where she had spent her girlhood and where is located the church which she chose as her spiritual home on earth, at the age of seventeen, the Church of god in Christ (Mennonite). Being the oldest of seven children living. Two having crossed the river before her, she shared the responsibility of raising the younger brothers and sisters. She mothered them in health, nursed them in sickness. To her they came with childish troubles, bruised toes, and injured feelings. She shared their joys, sorrows and confidences.

She was united in marriage to Alpha Leatherman October 4, 1914 at the age of 41. Being denied motherhood she took into her home four homeless babes whose own mothrrs could never have given them better care and more real affection than she lavished upon those really lovable babes.

After a lifetimes of sacrifice and service and an illness of only five days she passed away December 26, 1982 [sic 1928] at the age of 54 years, 4 months and 3 days leaving a vacancy in the hearts of family, relatives and friends that can never be quite filled.

She leaves a sorrowing husband, four children, three brothers, three sisters, many relatives and a host of friends who mourn their loss but rejoice in her gain.

She was preceded to the better world by her father, mother and two sisters. — Moundridge Journal.
