MRS. PHEBE LAUBER

Phebe Lauber, nee Stauffer, daughter of Joseph R. Stauffer and Mary Guth Stauffer, was born near Flanagan, Illinois, April 15, 1876, died in the Tofield, Alberta Municipal hospital, on Friday afternoon, January 22, age 77 years, nine months and seven days.

In 1877, she, with her parents, moved from Illinois to Seward county, Nebraska, where she lived until 1910, when she with her husband and family moved to Alberta, eventually settling on a farm near Dodds. There she made her home until the time of her death.

In May 1895 she was united in marriage with Benjamin Lauber. This union was blessed with fifteen children, three of whom, David, Esther and Paul, passed away in infancy; four others, Dan, Mattie, Joe and Mary, predeceased their mother in adult life.

Eight children are left to mourn her passing, Adelina Burkholder, Louis, Irvin, Ada Hostetler, Harold, Katie and Clarence of the Tofield district and Barbara of Bella Vista, California. She also leaves 37 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; three sisters, Lena Reil and Lucinda Yoder of the Tofield district and Barbara Brenneman of Hesston, Kansas; and one brother, Ezra Stauffer, a near neighbor.

Sunday morning, January 3, she suffered a heart attack at home. A number of days later she was placed in the Tofield hospital where she seemed to be convalescing quite well until Thursday morning, January 21, when she suffered a stroke and passed away the next afternoon.
