STONE QUARRY ACCIDENT CLAIMS LIFE OF PENNYSYLVANIA MAN

Cochranville, Pa. — Andrew G. Landis, 57, lost his life by suffocation in a stone quarry near Vintage on March 25 when he fell into a chute and was covered by the fine stone and dust.

It was necessary to dismantle the chute before he could be removed, which required about 20 minutes, and he was dead when reached by rescuers.

Bro. Landis served as deacon of the colored mission in Lancaster. He was the father of eight children, of whom all but two are married. His first marriage was to Bertha Myers, who died some years ago. His second wife was Anna Yoder of Mattawana, who survives him, along with the children and his aged father.
