Manitoba Couple Drown in River

Steinbach, Man. — A memorial service was held at the Emmanuel Free Church here on May 29 for Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kroeker, both 24, who are believed to have drowned in the Winnipeg River east of Seven Sister Falls. The bodies had not been recovered up to June 2.

A witness to the tragedy said the couple were canoeing in the swirling, icy waters when the craft overturned and both disappeared almost immediately. They leave a young son.

Mr. Kroeker was a teacher, and the couple had lived at Steibach [sic Steinbach] one year and at Calgary, Alberta two years before moving to Kane, Man. last fall where he again took a teaching position.
