H. M. KROEKER

H. M. Kroeker, was born the 24th of April, 1861, in the southern part of Russia. In the early seventies an extensive exodus started among the Mennonites in that part of the country which movement brought him with his parents in the summer of 1875 to this country. He arrived in Mountain Lake July 30th, of the same year. He was then a lad of 14 years. The family soon settled down on a farm about two miles west of Mountain Lake, Minnesota. In 1886, January 3rd, he was united in holy matrimony with Miss Mary J. Ratzlaff.

This union was a happy one and lasted for 38 years. Eight children were born in the family of which two have gone before him.

About two years ago he began to complain of stomach troubles, and since the latter part of March, this year, he was confined to his bed. His sickness grew from bad to worse and soon became acute, and on June 5th, he succumbed to that dreadful disease, cancer.

He reached the age of 66 years, 1 month and 11 days. — Mt. Lake Observer.
