PETER PAUL KREIIBIEL

Peter P. Krehbiel, known by many only as “Uncle Pete.” was born June 29, 1873, at Summerfield. Ill., the son of Valentine and Susanna Krehbiel. He departed this life on Dec. 8, 1950, at his home in Oklahoma City, Okla. He reached the age of 77 years, five months and nine days.

On April 22, 1889, he was baptized upon the confession of his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He came to Oklahoma with his family in the opening of the Cherokee Strip. After living at Gotebo for several years he moved to Geary, Okla., where he joined the First Mennonite church in 1911. He served as a deacon in the Geary church for about 10 years.

Although he was ill the latter years of his life, unable to help himself or attend church anywhere, he kept up his daily devotions in the home. He was able to talk with his loved ones before his going, and he told them that he was ready to meet his Maker, and that he had already seen some of the loved ones who had gone before. In his last conscious moments he sang. "Glory, Glory, Hallelujah." His favorite passages were Psalm 23 and the Lord's Prayer.

On Oct. 4, 1896, he was united in marriage with Rachel Reusser. Five children were born to this union, three daughters and two sons: Mrs. Susie Penner of Hillsboro, Kans., Mrs. Ellen Grescher of Emporia, Kans., Mrs. Irma Loganbill of Mission, Texas, Erich Krehbiel of Omaha, Nebr., and Abraham Krehbiel of Newport, Washington.

This family circle was broken by the passing of the wife and mother on Dec. 30, 1937. The emptiness left in the passing of his companion was again filled in the fall of 1938 when the father remarried.

The funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Dec. 11, at 4 o’clock, in the Capitol Hill funeral home in Oklahoma City, Okla.

He was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother, Mrs. Ed. Linscheid, Mrs. Mary Welty, Mrs. Anna Foth, Mrs. Martha Ruesser [sic Reusser] and Christian Krehbiel.

Surviving are his devoted wife Mrs. Elva Krehbiel, his children, four sisters, Mrs. Selma Reusser of Deer creek, Okla., Mrs. Priska [sic Prisca] Bachman of Newton, Kansas, Mrs. Lydia Ruth of Augusta, Kans., and Mrs. Susie Ruesser [sic Reusser] of Moundridge, Kans.; four brothers, Val Krehbiel of Augusta, Kans., Earhart Krehbiel and David Krehbiel, both of Deercreek, Okla., and Ernest Krehbiel of Moundridge, Kans.; 16 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and other relatives and hosts of friends.
