MRS. MARGARET E. KREHBIEL

Mrs. Margaret E. Krehbiel, daughter of Peter and Magdalena Krebill, was born April 29, 1862, on a farm northwest of Donnellson, Iowa. It was there that she received her early training and education and grew to womanhood.

On September 26, 1875, she made a public profession of her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized by Rev. Christian Schowalter and received into the fellowship of the Zion Mennonite church. She served as a Sunday school teacher and was a member of the women's missionary society. As long as she was able she was a faithful church attendant and when her health failed she often expressed the wish if she could only go to church to worship.

On April 8, 1883, she was united in marriage with C. August Krehbiel with whom she was permitted to share life’s joys and sorrows for more than fifty-three years, having celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary on April 8, 1933.

For a number of years, they lived on the farm near Donnellson. Later on her husband went into the milling business at Primrose, Iowa, which he conducted for several years. When he gave up that business, they moved to Donnellson where they resided most of the time. They lived at Long Beach, California for about eight years. They frequently spent the summers at Colorado Springs to escape the hot and humid atmosphere of the Mississippi valley.

The last few years she was troubled with an heart ailment. When she was no longer able to care for herself and needed the attention of a nurse, she was taken to the Anne Ferris Nursing Home at Fort Madison, Iowa, where she peacefully passed away early Sunday morning, July 10, 1949, at the ripe old age of 87 years, two months and 11 days. Her husband preceded her in death on July 17, 1936.

Three sisters and six brothers preceded her into the Great Beyond.

She leaves to mourn her departure one brother, Fred C. Krebill of Donnellson, Iowa; four sisters-in- law, Mrs. Clara Krebill of Long Beach, California, Mrs. Ida Krebill and Mrs. Elsie Rowlinson of Fort Madison, Iowa, and Mrs. F. C. Krebill of Donnellson; also many nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Zion Mennonite church on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. They were in charge of her pastor, Rev. Elmer Basinger. A ladies' quartet, the Misses Mary, Lillian, and Hilda Krehbiel and Miss Virginia Lowenberg, sang “Heaven is my Home" and "Abide With Me.” Six of her nephews, Ellis and Melvin Krebill, Edgar, Curt, and Gordon Krehbiel, and Harry Krebill, served as pallbearers. Burial was made in the Mennonite cemetery northwest of Donnellson.
