GUSTAV A. KREHBIEL

Gustav A. Krehbiel, a long-time resident of the Drake, Sask., district, died suddenly of a heart attack while at work in Drake on April 11, reaching the age of 78 years, eight moths and nine days.

He was born on Aug. 2, 1889 at Halstead, Kan. in 1905 he moved to Canada with his parents, settling near Simpson, Sask. He later took a homestead southwest of Drake where he and his wife, Sophia Esther Ewert, made their home after their marriage on June 7, 1917. In 1919 they both became members of the North Star Mennonite Church where he served as Sunday school superintendent and teacher.

Mr. Krehbil was well known for his untiring and unselfish help, especially in the field of veterinary work. On June 11, 1967 the Krehbiels were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary.

During his wife's illness he faithfully cared for her till she preceded him in death just three months ago, on Jan. 11. Besides his wife he was predeceased by an infant daughter. Left to mourn his passing are one daughter, Mrs. Lucille Welker, and one son Merl, both of Drake, and seven grandchildren.

The funeral service was held in the Drake Mennonite Church on April 16 with Rev. H. Penner officiating, assisted by Rev. Oglesby of Lanigan. Internment [sic] was in the family plot of the Mennonite cemetery west of Drake. Coming from a distance to attend the funeral was an only sister Mrs. Sarah Friesen of Edmonton, Alberta.
