Sarah Koehn

Sarah Koehn, wife of brother Andrew Koehn, of Montezuma, Kansas, was born in Russia, Nov. 20th, 1827 [sic 1872]. She came to this country with her mother and several others in 1893. Her mother settled in Lontree [sic Lonetree] township, near McPherson, Kansas. Later Sarah went to Durham in Marion County, Kansas to work. Here she then also united in marriage with Andrew W. Koehn, May 19th 1894.

They lived in Marion County for a number of years, until in 1913 they moved to Gray County, near Montezuma in Western Kansas, where they lived till the sister was called from this life to the beyond through death, on the night of Dec. 19, 1928.

She reached the age of 55 years and 29 days. The sister repented and turned to the Lord in the Spring of 1914, when upon forgiveness of her sins she through baptism and laying on of hands was added to the fellowship of the Saints.

Last summer she noticed that her health was fast failing her, so before her parting from here she said that she felt the fellowship of the Lord, and had a desire to go to meet the Lord.

She has lived with her husband for some over 34 years. To this union 12 children were born, 5 sons and 7 daughters, who are all living. She has been grandmother of 17 grandchildren, of which number 14 are still living.

She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, 12 children, 14 grandchildren, 1 brother, 2 sisters, 3 half-sisters and many relatives.

Funeral services were conducted in the Montezuma Mennonite church, northwest of Montezuma, where brother Rev. John A. Koehn preached from the words of Text, Ecc: 12, 8. After services the remains were laid to rest in the nearby Cemetery.
