RESIDENT OF BETHEL HOME AT MONTEZUMA CALLED AWAY IN DEATH

Montezuma, Kan. — Mrs. Lena Koehn, 87, a resident of the Bethel Home here since 1954, was called away in death Tuesday, Sept. 13. Mrs. Koehn, whose home was at Greensburg, came to Kiowa County in 1909. She was a member of the Bethel Mennonite Church at Greensburg, where also the funeral services were held. Rev. Harvey Yost was the officiating minister.

Five sons and five daughters together with their families, survive.

LENA WEDEL KOEHN

Lena Wedel Koehn, daughter of Cornelius and Nettie Wedel was born in Poland-Russia, Dec. 29, 1872 and passed away in Bethel Home, Montezuma, Kan., on Sept. 13, 1960, reaching the age of 88 years eight months and 15 days.

She with her parents immigrated to America in 1874, settling in McPherson County, Kan., where she grew to womanhood.

In 1891 she was united in marriage to Henry P. Koehn, who preceded her in death Dec. 22, 1957. This union was blest with 12 children, of whom two died in infancy.

She found her Saviour in her early married life and upon the remission of sins and confession of faith she was baptized and added to the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, to which she remained faithful to the end. She was a devoted Christian, ever contending for the faith, and had a great concern for the salvation of her loved ones. She was a kind and loving mother, a good provider always looking to the welfare of her home.

She leaves to mourn her passing, five sons, Fred, Glenn, and Virgil of Greensburg, Kan., Amel of Inman, and Edd [sic Ed] of Winton, Calif.; five daughters, Mrs. Alferd [sic Alfred] Smith, Cimarron, Kan., Mrs. Victor Smith and Mrs. Alvin Unruh, both of Greensburg, Kan., Mrs. Alferd [sic Alfred] Koehn of Durham, Kan., Mrs. Albert Schnider [sic Schneider] of Moundridge, Kan.; 44 grandchildren 62 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Simon and C. C. Wedel, and a host of relatives and friends.

Her husband, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Sept. 16 at the Bethel Mennonite church, Greensburg, with ministers Harvey Yost and John A. Koehn officiating. Interment was made in the Fairview cemetery.
