FREDA UNRUH KOEHN

Freda Unruh Koehn, daughter of John B. and Elizabeth (Deckert) Unruh, was born Oct. 17, 1905, near Galva, Kansas and passed away Jan. 4, 1959, in the McPherson County Hospital, McPherson, Kansas, having reached the age of 53 years, two months and 17 days. Her death was caused by cancer.

Freda grew to womanhood and received her education in the community near Galva. Early in life she felt her need of the Savior, to whom she committed her life. Upon her confession of faith she was added to the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, by baptism on Feb. 22, 1921, to which she remained faithful to the end.

On April 3, 1927, she was joined to marriage to Harry Koehn with whom she shared the many joys and sorrows of life. This union was blessed with four children.

Mother was of a loving disposition, giving much care to the teaching of her children as well as her grandchildren, who were very dear to her. She enjoyed singing and did much singing herself. She enjoyed the fellowship of the church and was always present when possible. She was active in teaching Sunday school and in other church activities. Even in her illness she maintained her interest and concern for the Church.

We will greatly miss her cheerful presence in the home, but she has left us with many cherished memories and above all a good witness of having left this world in peace.

Mother enjoyed fair health until about five years ago. When her illness became apparent medical aid was sought but from that time she slowly grew weaker, at times enduring much pain and discomfort, but with patience.

A few days before she passed away she expressed her longing to meet Jesus and her two sisters in heaven.

She leaves to mourn her departure her sorrowing husband; two sons and two daughters, Velma Jean (Mrs. Delbert Buller) and Verlin, both of Moundridge, Maryellyn and Maynard of the home; one son-in-law, Delbert Buller, and one daughter-in-law, Velma Ruth; three grandchildren, Diana and Harlan Buller and Patricia Koehn; her stepmother, Carrie Unruh of Galva; six brothers and three sisters, Pete of Canton, Mary (Mrs. Jacob B. Becker) and Dave of Galva, Nettie (Mrs. Dave Becker) of Moundridge, William of Nevada, Mo., Lena (Mrs. Jacob Unruh) of Halstead, Abe of Montezuma, Isaac and Jacob of Greeensburg; and a host of relatives and friends. Her parents, one brother and two sisters preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held in the Lonetree Mennonite Church near Galva, Kansas on Jan. 7, 1959, with Ministers Arverd Wiggers and Jonas B. Koehn officiating.
