MONTEZUMA FARMER FATALLY INJURED IN ACCIDENT LAST WEEK

The Hutchinson (Kans.) News-Herald has given the following report of the tragedy in which Edward Koehn, farmer at Montezuma, lost his life early last week.

Tuesday’s terrific dust storm was the indirect cause of the death of Edward Koehn, 42, farmer eight miles northwest of Montezuma.

Koehn apparently was suffocated to death shortly before noon when he fell form a tractor and was pushed along the ground by a large disc behind the tractor.

Koehn was discing the field in an effort to keep it from blowing. When he failed to return to the house for the noon meal, his wife, Josephine, investigated. She found him almost buried in a roll of dirt between the tractor and the disc.

The tractor had run in narrowing circles after Koehn fell off until the motor died. Koehn’s body bore only a few cuts from the disc. It was thought that the farmer might have been knocked unconscious by the fall and suffocated while being rolled in front of the disc.

Survivors, besides the widow, are 10 children; his father, Bernard, of Montezuma, and a number of brothers and sisters. Koehn had farmed in the Montezuma neighborhood for several years.
