C. E. Koehn

Cornelius Koehn, son of Ernest and Lena Koehn, was born July 17, 1854 [July 7, 1856?], in Poland, Russia.

In the year 1874 he immigrated to Kansas and from there went to Iowa for some time and then back to Kansas again, where he was baptized in 1876.

In 1879 he was united in marriage to Miss Katherine Ratzlaff in McPherson county, Kans., in the Canton church, now called the Immanuel church.

To this union 15 children were born — nine daughters and six sons of which three preceded him in death, two in infancy and Abraham at the age of 52 years.

In 1901 he moved to Oklahoma and settled on a farm two miles east of Goltry where he remained until his death.

Mr. Koehn, together with Tob Becker, Jacob Johnson and Mr. Luginbill, were the first who organized the Mennonite church at Goltry 33 years ago.

Mr. Koehn has been in fairly good health until July 3, 1941, when he became sick and since there was no improvement in his illness he was taken to the General hospital at Enid on July 9 and passed away July 15, 1941, at 7:40 P.M. at the age of 87 years and 8 days.

He leaves to mourn, his children; Mrs. Susie Unruh of Meno; Barney at Goltry; Isaac at Meno; Mrs. Lizzie Becker at Meno; John and Frank at Carnegie; Mrs. Anna Smith at Fort Cobb; Mrs. Carrie Pekrul at Aline; Mrs. Lena Jantz at meno; Mrs. Marie Pjesky at Golty; Julia still at home; and Mrs. Ida Unruh at Meno; 47 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; one brother, Benjamin of Taloga, and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Decker in Kansas.

His wife preceded him in death in 1917. Also two brothers, Andrew and Henry, and two sisters, Mrs. Eva Ridegar [sic Rudiger] and Mrs. Anna Nightengale [sic Nachtigal], preceded him in death.
