— Cornelius C. Koehn, 72, farmer in the Goessel community most of his life, died at Bethel Deaconess Hospital on Monday after a month's illness. The family home has been at 322 East First St. for the past two years. Funeral services are to take place Thursday afternoon, at 1:00 p.m. at the Draper's Funeral Home and 2:00p.m. at the Alexanderwohl Church, of which he was a member. Rev. P. A. Wedel and Rev. Curt Boese will officiate. Mr. Koehn leaves his wife, the former Agnes Goertz; six sons, all of the Newton vicinity, and two daughters; four sisters, to brothers and 24 grandchildren.

CORNELIUS C. KOEHN

Cornelius C. Koehn, son of Cornelius & Wilhelmina (Lehrman) Koehn, was born Sept. 4, 1883, near Goessel, Kansas. He received his public school education in the Antioch School in Marion County, Kansas.

He was baptized upon confession of faith in his Redeemer Jesus Christ on May 31, 1903, by Rev. Peter Balzer and joined the Alexanderwohl Church whose faithful member he remained until his death.

He was united in marriage to Agnes Goertz April 12, 1908, by Rev. Peter Buller. The parents enjoyed a happy married life together for almost 48 years. To this union were born 10 children of whom one son passed away in early infancy.

The departed was a farmer all his life. He also served his immediate community as a thresherman for many years.

The parents lived for five years near DuBois, Idaho, moving there in 1914 and returning in 1919, making their home east of Goessel in Marion County, Kansas. Mr. Koehn was a hard working man, sincerely believing in the words of Scripture, "In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread" Gen. 3:19.

He enjoyed good health all of his life until about three months ago when he suffered a few minor strokes. A stroke on Jan.20, however, paralyzed his right side. He had been bedfast since that time. For nine days he remained in his home, but was then removed to the Bethel Hospital where all possible medical and doctor's care was given him. On Feb. 22 he contracted pneumonia which proved fatal because of his weakened condition.

He passed away Feb. 25, 1956, at 10:30 a. m., reaching the age of 72 years, five months and 22 days.

The departed father and husband tried to live an upright life, attending church services faithfully as long as health permitted. Often in his daily toil he hummed his favorite Christian hymns, one of them being, "Gathering Home."

Mr. Koehn had retired from active farm life about five and one-half years ago and made his home in Newton.

He leaves to mourn his departure the following: His sorrowing wife Agnes; nine children, Jacob C., his wife Irma and family, Newton, Cornelius and wife Edna and family, Newton, Nellie and husband Walter Esau and family, Walton, Ks., Mrs. Margaret Eubank, Sacramento, Calif., Frank and wife Vera, Newton, John and wife Clara Ellen and family, Newton, George and wife Inez and family, Newton, Martha and husband Victor Penner and family, Newton, Irwin and wife Donna and family, Newton, (Edward passed away at the age of 21 days); 24 grandchildren; two brothers, David and Henry Koehn; four sisters, Mrs. H. H. Schmidt, Mrs. Helen Dalke, Wilhelmina Koehn, and Mrs. P. P. Androes.

Three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

"Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him." I Cor. 3:9.

Funeral services were conducted on March 1, 1956, at the Draper Funeral Home and at the Alexanderwohl Church, by Rev. P. A. Wedel assisted by Rev. H. B. Schmidt and Rev. Curt Boese.
