Mrs. B. H. Koehn

Mrs. B. H. Koehn was born in Southern Russia, April 19, 1845, where she grew to womanhood and was married to B. H. Koehn. In 1874 they immigrated to America and settled in McPherson county, Kan., later moving to a farm near Halstead, where they lived until January, 1922, when her companion was taken by death and she was left a widow. They were blessed with ten children, two dying in infancy. The remaining children were all present at the funeral except Miss Mary who could not be present. The children are B. B. Koehn, C. C. Koehn, S. B. Koehn, J. B. Koehn, T. B. Koehn, Mrs. John Johnson, Mrs. J. C. Johnson all of Halstead and Miss Mary Koehn of Larned, Kan. Mrs. Koehn became ill last April and suffered since that time. She was a real pioneer having experienced the burdens of rearing a family and encountering many hardships of the early days in Kansas. She was of a pleasant disposition and will be remembered by the many kindnesses bestowed. Her death occurred from the infirmities of old age on July 2, 1928, at the age of 83 years, three months and three days. Services were held at the Mennonite church one mile west of Halstead of which she was a faithful member, on Tuesday, July 24, conducted by Rev. Dirks and Rev. Yost of Greensburg. Interment was made in the Halstead cemetery.
