MARY KLASSEN

Mary Klassen of Chilliwack, B.C. passed away Oct. 18. She was born July 30, 1922 to Abraham and Anna Hiebert in southern Russia. The family came to Canada in 1927. She attended public school and Bible school in Coaldale, Alta. She was baptized and joined the MB church. On July 11,1943 she married Abram Klassen of Kelstern, Sask. They farmed near Kelstern. In 1946 they moved to B.C., living in Matsqui, then Agassiz. In 1948 they moved to Sardis, B.C. From her youth she was a happy, faithful child of God. She was active in the church choir, ladies' group and Pioneer Girls, decorated the church for special occasions and helped the youth prepare flower s for Mother's Day. She loved musie, sang and played guitar and autoharp. She and Abram had Bible studies in their home and helped with the handicapped. She gave lessons in handwork. She enjoyed travelling. Cancer was diagnosed in 1986, went into remission and returned. During her suffering she showed a remarkable sense of the presence of the Spirit, speaking of how in the dark hour of the night she had placed everything in God's hands. Predeceased by her husband in 1983, daughter Shirley in 1951, and stepmother Mary Enns in 1984, she is survived by daughters Laura of Chilliwack, Joyce Martin of Maple Ridge, B.C. and Linda of Sardis; son Ron of Kamloops, B.C.; 3 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 2 step great-grandchildren; 1 brother; 2 sisters; and stepfather Henry Enns of Clearbrook, B.C. The funeral was Oct. 22 in Greendale MB Church, Sardis, with Len Doerksen ministering.
