HENRY H. KLASSEN

Henry H. Klassen of Coaldale, Alta. went to be with the Lord on January 4, after a brief illness. He was born on March 12, 1892 in Nikolaital, Ekaterinoslav, southern Russia. In 1913 he married Anna Penner of Schoendorf, and the union was blessed with ten children. In 1914 he was drafted to serve in the Vladimir forest reserve for four years. In the troubled years 1920-22 they both accepted Christ as personal Saviour. They were baptized and joined the Mennonite Brethren church. In 1926 they emigrated to Canada, first settling in McMahon, Sask., and then in 1934 moving to a farm near Vauxhall, Alta. Anna passed away on February 28, 1941. In 1943 he married Katie Reimer of Yarrow, B.C. The couple moved to a small acreage in Coaldale, where he worked at cabinet making. In his later years he enjoyed painting in oils. Following retirement, the couple moved into the town of Coaldale, and finally in fall of 1978 into the Sunny South Lodge.

He will be missed by his wife Katie and the following children: Corny and Lena of Calgary, Helen of Coaldale, Annie and Frank Epp of Vauxhall, John and Shirley of Fernie, B.C., Mary and David Dyck of Linden, Alta., Bill and Carol of Calgary, Henry and Susie Reimer of Coaldale, and daughter-in law Mary (Mrs. Henry) Klassen of Calgary. He also leaves 2 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by sons Jacob in 1943 and Henry in 1976.
