EX-PREMIER MACKENZIE KING CALLED IN DEATH

Former Canadian Prime minister W. L. Mackenzie King, who held office longer than any other leader of a freely elected and representative government, died at Ottawa, Canada, Saturday morning, July 22.

King was prime minister of Canada for over 21 years — a man loved at home and highly respected abroad. He was 75 years old.

Known as "the great compromiser," he appeared seldom discouraged over serious difficulties in which he or his government found itself, but his comprimises [sic] often strained his party to the breaking point. The two chief goals of his brilliant career — complete Canadian independence and unty [sic] of French and English-speaking Canada — seemed accomplished when he retired from office over a year ago. He was born Dec. 17, 1874 at Berlin, Ont. (now Kitchener).
