BERNICE MARIE KING

Bernice Marie King, daughter of Henry J. and Anna (Hartzler) King, was born on Feb. 24, 1920, at Harper, Kansas. She passed away at the home of her parents in Greensburg, Kansas on June 26, 1961, aged 41 years, four months, and two days. Her death followed a prolonged illness which led to a heart condition.

She lived for some years at Arthur, Ill. where she had moved with her parents in 1938. She worked for two years at the Mennonite Publishing House in Scottdale, Pa. She served for a number of years at Goshen College, Goshen, Ind., as a secretary. Due to ill health, she moved from Goshen to Greensburg, Kansas to live with her parents in September, 1960. For a short while preceding her death she was employed at the Kiowa Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.

She accepted Christ as her Saviour, was baptized, and received into the fellowship of the Mennonite Church at an early age. At the time of her passing she was a member of the Calvary Mennonite Church in Greensburg.

She was a lover of music and used her talents in that capacity. Her cheerful disposition won for her many friends.

Besides her parents, she is survived by two sisters, Estella, Mrs. John Plank of Harper, Kansas, and Dorothy, Mrs. Mervin Troyer, also of Harper; two brothers, Leland of Portland, Oregon, and Wayne of East Peoria, Ill.; 10 nephews and six nieces. One sister, Joanna, preceded her in death.

Memorial services were held June 29 at 9:30 a.m. at Fleener Chapel, Greensburg, in charge of W. F. Unruh and at the Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church, Harper, at 2:30 p.m. in charge of James Detweiler and Richard Yordy. Burial was in Pleasant Valley Mennonite Cemetery.
