MRS. ANNA KING

Anna, daughter of Peter and Barbara (Neuhauser) Smith, was born near Congerville, Ill., August 4, 1863; passed away at Bethel hospital, Newton, Kansas on Friday, Nov. 25, 1949, age 86 years, three months and 21 days.

Upon her marriage to Samuel B. King in 1885, they moved from Illinois to Kansas, founding their new home near Larned. Ten years later they located on a farm near Hesston, which was their home for 47 years, until near the time of his decease in 1942.

Their’s was a happy home for their nine children, and was a place where many relatives and friends found hospitality. Since her husband's death, she had made her home with her eldest daughter, Mrs. Ephraim Risser, Hesston.

Sister King was converted at the age of fifteen and was a sincere and faithful member of the Mennonite Church from her youth. After moving to Hesston, however, she sought the lord more fully and He warmed her heart and gave her a deeper love for His word and for the souls of mankind.

She was always ready to testify to the deep peace and assurance of salvation which she enjoyed from the Lord and which she cherished for others. She was a faithful attendant at all church services, including the mid-week prayer meetings, and served as a Sunday school teacher at the Pennsylvania church for more than forty years. To the end she maintained a keen interest in Christian missions and daily interceded for His work and workers in many lands.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her eldest son, Ezra. The remaining children are Emma Risser, Hesston; Frank, Chicago; Elmer, Eureka, Ill; Grace Shellenberger, Wichita, Kansas; Alvin, Hesston; Samuel, Dhamtari, C. P., India; Chauncey, River Falls, Wisconsin; and Bessie Yoder, Kalona, Iowa.

Among the other relatives are twenty-four grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. J. P. Oyer, St Johns, Michigan and a brother, C. H. Smith, Eureka, Ill.

Funeral services were conducted at the Risser home in Hesston by O. O. Hershberger and by Earl Buckwalter at the Pennsylvania Mennonite church near Newton, Kansas, Nov. 27. Interment was made in the Pennsylvania cemetery.
