MRS. KATIE KEIL

Mrs. Katie Keil passed away Tuesday evening, June 18, at the Bethel Hospital, Mt. Lake, Minn., at the age of 83 years two months and 28 days.

Mrs. Keil was born in Austria to Jacob and Magdalena (Kintzi) Miller and came to America with her parents at the age of two years. They made their home in Mankato, Minn. for seven years, and in 1889 she moved with her parents to a farm one mile southwest of Butterfield, Minn. where she lived until she was married. She was baptized in the Butterfield Mennonite Church in 1896.

On Feb. 12, 1899, she was married to John Kiel [sic Keil]. They lived in Butterfield six years and then moved onto the farm and farmed around Butterfield for 21 years. After her husband's health failed, they moved to LaSalle, Minn. with their son John. Her husband passed away in 1928, and she then returned to Butterfield and lived in her home until her health failed and she moved in with her daughter Alma. She lived with her daughter until about six years ago when she became ill and was in and out of the hospital many times, establishing residence at the Eventide Nursing Home in Mt. Lake.

Mrs. Keil is survived by her four children, John W. Keil of Austin, Minn.; Mathilda, Mrs. Clarence Fatland of Houston, Texas; Mrs. Ashild Vatndal of Butterfield; and Arleen, Mrs. T. A. Tallent of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Lizzie and Susie Miller; and two brothers, Jacob and John Miller of Butterfield; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and many more relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband and four children.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Mennonite Church in Butterfield. Rev. Peter Tschetter officiating. Burial was in the Butterfield Mennonite Cemetery.

Special music was furnished by Mrs. Elmer Sawatzky, Mrs. Earl Thiessen, Mrs. Peter Tschetter and organist Mrs. Lamont Ewy. Casket bearers were six or Mrs. Keil's cousins.
