SEM KAUFMAN

Sem Kaufman, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Kaufman of Belleville, Pa., passed away at noon, Thursday, May 9, in the Black Community Hospital, Lewistown, Pa., He was admitted April 17 as a medical patient.

He was aged 21 years 11 months 11 days and was a member of the Belleville Mennonite church, where he was assistant superintendent of the Sunday School. He graduated from Belleville high school in the class of 1941.

Surviving are three sisters: Misses Mary and Twila Kaufman, at home; and Mrs. Norman (Effie) Yoder, R. D., Belleville.

The Kaufman family, loyal members of the Belleville Mennonite church and highly esteemed citizens of the community, formerly resided at Holsopple, Somerset county, and have lived near Belleville since 1928.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, May 12, at the home at 1:30 and from the Belleville Mennonite church at 2 P. M., with approximately 900 people in attendance at the church service. Preachers Aaron Mast, Emmanuel Peachey and Elrose Hartzler officiated. Harry Shetler of Johnstown, a close friend of the Kaufman family, also had part in the services.

Interment was made in Locust Grove cemetery. The casket carriers were: Merle Yoder, Paul Glick, Joseph Yoder, Glen Kauffman, Warren Yoder and Percy Yoder.
