Pioneer Settler Called by Death

Berne, Ind. — Rev. and Mrs. Olin E. Krehbiel of the First Mennonite church here left Jan. 26 for Tulare, Calif., having been notified of the death of Mrs. Krehbiel’s father, Jacob J. Kaufman, at that place on the previous day.

Mr. Kaufman, who had engaged in farming near Tulare, died suddenly of a heart attack according to word received here. He was 84 years of age, and had come to this country from Russia as a child.

Besides Mrs. Krehbiel, he is survived by his wife, Helena; two sons, Victor of Porterville, Calif. [sic Calif.] and Ted, at home; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
