ANNA GOERING KAUFMAN

Anna Goering Kaufman, daughter of Rev. Jacob D. and Anna Strausz Goering, was born Jan. 12, 1877, near Moundridge and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jonas H. Vogt, on April 27, 1955, reaching the age of 78 years, three months and 15 days.

She received her education in the district schools of the community. After receiving catechetical instruction, she was baptized upon confession of her faith in Jesus Christ as her Redeemer on Oct. 4 1891, by Rev. Jacob Stucky and became a member of the Hoffnungsfeld church and later transferred her membership to the Eden church where she remained a member until the time of her departure.

On August 23, 1895, she was united in marriage to Peter J. Kaufman and they shared life’s joys and sorrows for over 52 years. On March 20, 1948, her husband was called away by death. The Lord blessed them with eight children, three of whom died in early childhood.

Mother endured the hardship of pioneer life and through much toil and labor reared her family in the fear and admonition of the Lord. She was a great lover of the outdoors, and especially liked to be among her flowers.

On January 12, on her 78th birthday, she suffered a stroke which left her helpless. She was taken to Mercy hospital for a few days and then taken to her home in Moundridge. On April 1 she was removed to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jonas Vogt. Two weeks before her departure she was taken critically ill and suffered a series of strokes. She was a patient sufferer, submitting her will to the will of the Father.

She leaves to mourn her departure four daughters, Mrs. Jonas Vogt and husband, Mrs. Joe Schrag and husband, Mrs. Dave Schrag and husband, and Mrs. A. R. Regier, Jr. and husband, and one son Willard J. Kaufman and wife; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, one brother-in-law, and three sisters-in-law. Her husband, three children, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild preceded her in death.

We mourn, but rest assured that she is absent from the body but present with the Lord.
