MRS. C. J. KAUFFMAN

The death of Mrs. C. J. Kauffman of East Lynne, Mo. occured [sic] in Doctors hospital near Harrisonville Friday, December 14. Mrs. Kauffman, who was 71 years six months and 21 days old, had been a patient in the hospital since September 3, 1951.

The funeral was conducted Sunday afternoon in the Sycamore Grove Mennonite church a few miles east of Harrisonville by Rev W. R. Hershberger, who was assisted by Rev. Rev. S. S. Hershberger. A mixed double quartet composed of Carrie Schrock, Mary K. Yoder, Phoebe Hershberger, Laura Hershberger, Walter Yoder, Junior Yoder, Wilber Schrock and Albert Schrock sang “Asleep in Jesus," “Let Me Go” and “Silently Bury the Dead.” Casketbearers were Roy Smith, Glen Oesch, Dee Yoder, Dan Lehman, A. D Hartzler, Jr., and Austin Lehman. Burial was in the Clearfork cemetery near the church.

Sarah Ann Osech [sic Oesch], the daughter of Joseph and Katheryn Oesch was born in Hickory county, Mo. May 3, 1880. The family later moved to Cass county. Here she united with the Sycamore Grove church in her youth and remained faithful to that church until the end of her earthly life.

The marriage of Miss Oesch and Christian J. Kauffman took place February 6, 1910, near Garden City, Mo. They started house-keeping near Guyman, Okla. where they lived until December 1914, when they moved to a farm near Garden City. Since August 1949, they have made their home with her brother, W. J. Oesch in East Lynne. Mr. and Mrs. Kauffman had no children of their own, but they adopted a son Kenneth, and gave him parental care and love.

Besides her companion and son she leaves two brothers, W. J Oesch of East Lynne and Simon J. Oesch of Kansas City, Kans.; four sisters, Mrs. Emma Lehman of East Lynne, Mrs. Ida Smith of Garden City, Mrs. Mary Yoder of Harrisonville and Mrs. Barbara Hartzler of East Lynne, and a number of other relatives and friends.

She appreciated very much the cards received and the visits of friends during her illness.
