MRS. LYDIA A. KAUFFMAN

Lydia A. (King) Kauffman, daughter of Abraham and Martha (Yoder) King, was born May 13, 1875, near Bellefontaine, Ohio and passed away at the age of 82 years and 11 days on May 24, 1957. Because of a fall resulting in a broken hip, she was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, Garden City, Mo. and quietly slipped away to be with her Lord four days later.

She was the oldest of a family of 11 children and all but two brothers have preceded her in death. These are Nelson King, Fairpoint, Ohio, and Abe King, Harrisonburg, Va.

On Nov. 27, 1900, she was married to Franklin Pierce Kauffman of Garden City, Mo. who preceded her in death. To this happy union were born two sons and three daughters. They are: Goldie, Mrs. Elmer Hershberger of Detroit Lakes, Minn., Mrs. Ida Hershberger of Garden City, Mo., Marion, who died at the age of 20 months, Vernon F. of Garden City, Mo., who preceded his mother in death. She faithfully served in her death, and Eldora, Mrs. Philip Yoder, West Liberty, Ohio. [word order in original]

In her youth she accepted Christ as her Savior and became a member of the South Union Mennonite Church near West Liberty, Ohio, later transferring her membership to the Sycamore Grove Mennonite Church, Garden City, where she remained a faithful member until death. She faithfully servel [sic] in Sunday School and sewing circle work as long as her health permitted.

She was always of a kind, loving disposition. She was never heard to complain and her cheerfulness and thoughtfulness won her many friends. She will be greatly missed in the home, church and community, but we feel that our loss is her gain.

She leaves to mourn her departure two brothers, three daughters, 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a host of other friends and relatives.

Funeral services were conducted May 27 at the Sycamore Grove Mennonite Church by Bro. James D. Yoder and S. S. Hershberger. Interment was made in the Clearfork cemetery.
