Levi J. Kauffman

Levi J. Kauffman, oldest son of Jacob I. and Christena Esh Kauffman was born in Somerset Co., Pa., near Davidsville, Nov. 6, 1856, died after an illness of about 6 days at his home near the same place, on Jan. 22, 1931 having sojourned on this earth for 74 years, 2 months and 16 days. he was never married.

He is survived by 4 brothers, Isaac J. and Jacob Jr., of Johnstown, John E. of Tirehill, and Harry J. of near Davidsville and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother, Catherine wife of Noah Kauffman, of near Belleville, Hiram and Polly and one half brother, who died in infancy. Many years ago he united with the Amish Mennonite church and later transferred his membership to the Mennonite church, always loving faithful and l9oyal, devoting much time to reading and study in the Scriptures.

Realizing that the time of his departure was at hand he made arrangements for his funeral, selecting his text, II Tim. 4:6; also selecting the ministers to officiate and choosing six of his nephews for pallbearers.

Funeral services were held on the 24th of Janury, at the home and at the Kauffman [sic Kaufman] Mennonite church, conducted by S. G. Shetler and L. A. Blough.

Interment in the family plot in the Kauffman cemetery.
