Mrs. Emmaline Kaegi

Mrs. Emmaline Kaegi, daughter of Samuel and Martha Ferguson, was born January 9, 1865, near Goshen, Ind., and passed away in the hospital at Goessel, Kansas, October 30, 1930 [sic 1939], thus reaching the age of 74 years, 9 months, and 21 days.

When yet in her infancy the family moved to Iowa, residing there until 1877, when they came to McPherson Co., Kansas, in Meridian township. Three years later she lost her mother.

On New Year's Day in 1885 she was united in marriage with Christian Kaegi. They settled on a farm in Spring Valley township. In 1890 they with their two little girls came to Moundridge, where her husband was associated with his brother in the grain business. To this union eight children were born, the first of which, George McClellan, died in infancy. Her husband preceded her in death in Glasgow, Mont., in the year of 1927, having moved to this state with their son in the year 1918.

On December 2, 1917, she was baptized upon the confession of her faith by the Rev. J. M Suderman, then Pastor of the West Zion Mennonite church. Her exemplary and unselfish life was an inspiration to those who were near and dear to her and now mourn her departure. After mothering her own family she took the place of a mother in the household of John P. Huxman during the last six years of her life.

She leaves to mourn her departure six daughters and their families, Mrs. D. O. Rupp, Mrs. B. F. Luginbill, Mrs. B. M Dirks, Mrs. F. E. Dyck, Mrs. L. E. Stucky, all of Moundridge; and Mrs. F. L. Baily of Glentana, Mont., a son Clayton of Newton, Kansas; four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Gibb, Mrs. Sarepta Holdeman, both of Hesston, Kansas, Mrs. Sara King of Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. Leona Horning of Blanchard, Iowa; 23 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and two sisters.

The Rev. P. E. Regier officiated at the funeral service in the B. M Dirks home and in the West Zion church Thursday afternoon, using the text II Tim. 1 - 12. Burial was in meridian cemetery where her parents and little son are buried.

An octet composed of the Misses Marie Meyer, Katherine Winsinger, Mr. and Mrs. John Hirschler, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Meyer, Weldon Rupp and O. W. Dirks sang.

Pall bearers were: Messrs O. C. Rupp, D. W. Galle, W. D. Vogt, J. W. Dirks, C. G. Pankratz and John Goertz.

The family wishes to thank all those who remembered their mother in her five month's illness, for the floral offerings and other expressions of sympathy, and especially do they wish to thank the Bethesda nurses for their patient and loving care.
