REV. FRANKLYN L. JOST

Franklyn L. Jost, son of Frank R. and Marie Loewen Jost, was born on Dec. 2, 1923 at Hillsboro, Kan., and died on Dec. 4, 1970 at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S. D.

Having accepted Christ as personal Savior at the age of 12, he soon made the public profession of baptism and became a member of the Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church. After a critical illness in his college years, he acknowledged the call of God to His service, and many times renewed this dedication.

He united in marriage with Phoebe Wiebe in the summer of 1949 and they continued together, "committing our way unto the Lord . . . acknowledging Him" and experiencing "His direction in our path" (Psa. 37:3-5 and Proverbs 3:4, 5). After four years of teaching public school at Orland, Calif., he entered Central Baptist Seminary in 1952 and during his years of study also pastored the Stanley, Kan. Community church until 1956. His home church ordained him in July 1953.

After four years as pastor of the Parkview M. B. Church at Hillsboro, Kan., the Lord directed him to Bridgewater, S. D. where he served the Salem M. B. Church from January 1961 until he preached his last sermon on Dec. 6, 1970, entitled "Train to Live for God."

It was his joy to serve His Lord in every possible way, including activity on district and area levels of the conference. Particularly challenging to him was the home mission work, and his concern for workers was often evident.

His tender love and thoughtful concern, enthusiastic interest and participation in our individual and family activities were constantly shown. His selfless dedication to his Lord and Master with its expression to those whom his loving life touched will continue in its influence. His leading our meaningful family devotions with the practical instruction from God's Word will always be remembered.

Those who cherish these precious memories and now experience inexpressible grief at our loss are: his beloved wife, Phoebe; two sons, Franklyn Loren, Jr. and Walton Jay, and daughter, Elaine Beth; his parents of Hillsboro; two sisters, Mrs. LaVerna Penner, LaHabra, Calif., Marlys and husband, Dan Penner, Hillsboro; two brothers, Eldon Jost of Buhler, Kan. and victor Jost of Hillsboro and their wives; and many other relatives and friends.

The memorial service was held in the Salem, M. B. Church near Bridgewater, S. D. on Sunday, Dec. 27, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. David Plett, chairman of the Central District, was in charge of the service and also brought the memorial message.

The remains were moved to Hillsboro, Kan. where a brief service was held in the Parkview M. B. Church. Rev. Marvin Hein was in charge and also brought the memorial message. Interment was made in the Parkview Church Cemetery near Hillsboro. — The Family.
