MRS. DARLENE JOHNSON

Mrs. Darlene Doris Dirks Johnson, daughter of John and Malena (Smith) Dirks, was born Jan.19, 1932 at Halstead, Kan. and passed away on March 12, 1961 at the Bethel Deaconess Hospital in Newton. She reached the age of 29 years, one month and 21 days.

She received her education at Halstead, Kan.

In her young years she felt the need of her Saviour and upon confessing her sins and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ she received remission of her sins and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite, at Halstead on Dec. 20, 1942. She remained a faithful and courageous sister unto the end.

On March 23, 1952 she was united in marriage to Lynwood Johnson. To this union were born three daughters. Their married life of almost nine years was spent on a farm at Halstead.

Darlene was a very devoted wife and mother. During her last weeks on earth she often spoke of her concern and desires for her family, friends and church. She was truly an example of a faithful Christian.

During her last year her health slowly began to fail. On Feb.13, 1961 she was admitted to the hospital where she underwent surgery from which she never recovered. She was permitted to return to the home of her parents for a while before again returning to the hospital. She was very courageous and kind during all her pain and sickness. On March 9 she was again admitted to the hospital where on Sunday, March 12, at 7:40 a. m. she quietly and peacefully fell asleep. During the night she had told her husband that she would die and would not be able to talk to him anymore.

She leaves to mourn her departure her devoted husband, three daughters, Lynette Kay, 6, Bethine Rose, 3, and Janet Gail [sic Gayle], 10 months; her parents; two sisters and one brother. Roslyn and husband Galen Johnson of Halstead, Luane and Milferd of the parents' home; her parents-in-law, Irvin and Anna Johnson and daughters, Shirley and Ladonna of Halstead; two brothers-in-law, Verle and wife Sofia of Sainapuchic, Chihuahua, Mexico, and Calvin and wife Adala of Halstead; her grandmother, Mrs. Henry Smith of Burns, Kans.; her grandfather, Jake Johnson of Halstead, and a host of relatives andfriends.
