ABE J. JOHNSON

Abe J. Johnson, son of John J. and Lena Johnson, was born in McPherson county near Moundridge, Kans. October 23, 1880, where he also attended school.

At the age of 17 he came to Oklahoma with his parents and they settled on a farm near Meno where he grew to manhood.

He was united in marriage to Eva Jantz on November 12, 1903, at Carrier, Okla., and went to live on his grandmother's farm three miles east and one mile north of Goltry. They lived on this farm for four years. During this time their children were born.

After leaving the farm the family resided in Fairview for a number of years, then moved to Meno in 1923. For the past 29 years Mr. Johnson was a prominent merchant in Meno and rendered faithful service to the community. He was a member of the Christian Church.

He passed away on Thursday, November 22, 1951, at the age of 71 years and 29 days. He is survived by his wife Eva, three daughters and one son: Mildred, Mrs. Ceibert Smith of Fairview; Mamie, Mrs. G. C. Waller of Tulsa; Mrs. Dessie Jack of Meno, and Robert Johnson of Oakland, Calif. He also leaves four grandchildren, Peggy, Shirley, Kenneth and Karolene, and one great grandchild, Vickie; three sisters, Amelia, Mrs. John Eck of Hayward, Calif., Nina, Mrs. Ray Pannell of Taloga, and Irene, Mrs. Henry Koehn of Taloga, Okla.; and five brothers, Edward of Vinita, Fred of Goltry, Carl and Frank of Tologa [sic Taloga], and Elmer of Oakland, Calif. His brother Philip and parents preceded him in death. Besides the above named he leaves a host of friends and relatives.

Abe, as he was known to all, not only met his life’s problems with a smile, but helped bring joy to the hearts of all who knew him.

If you were troubled you could soon be lifted out of your gloom in his presence. It could be said that honesty was his life’s motto. Being a great lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed nature’s wonders, which made him pleasant as a neighbor and friend. His quick smile and cheerfulness will be greatly missed.

Funeral services were held in the Christian church at Meno, Okla., on November 25, 1951. Rev. John Lawler officiated. Interment was made in the Karoma cemetery of Goltry, Okla.
