MRS. MATHILDA JANZEN

Mathida Janzen was born Nov. 13, 1896 at Bessie, Okla. to Jacob and Anna Schmidt. She went to be with her Lord June 23, 1976 at Bethel Hospital, Newton, Kan., after suffering a massive stroke five days earlier. She attained the age of 79.

In 1913 she was baptized and joined the Herald Mennonite Church at Cordell, Okla.

On Nov. 23, 1916 she was married to Rudolph O. Janzen at the herald Mennonite Church. They shared life's experiences for almost 60 years.

After moving to a farm in the Whitewater community they joined the Grace Hill Mennonite Church, where she remained a faithful member. In 1966, when they retired, they moved to Newton.

Due to mother's arthritis she was limited going places and doing the things she enjoyed such as gardening and working with flowers, but her house was always immaculate and cookies and other "goodies" were always awaiting us when the children and grandchildren came for a visit. She loved to sew and crochet. She enjoyed coming to the women's mission society meetings of the church and took part as long as she was able to do so.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are her husband; three daughters, Mrs. Edna Lawson, Ruth and husband Robert Zook, Clara and husband Eugene Koehn; two sons, Henry and wife Laura and Robert and wife Judy; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters, Ed Schmidt of Cordell, Okla., Leonard and Clarence Schmidt, Mrs. Carrie Epp and Mrs. Jake Epp, all living in Canada.

She will be greatly missed by her husband, family and friends.
