John J. Janzen

Mt. Lake, Minn., July 4. — The hearts of the citizens of this village and community are saddened by the departure of one of our most esteemed fellow citizens and business men, Mr. John J. Janzen. He passed away at his home on Wednesday forenoon at about 10 o'clock. For about a year and a half Mr. Janzen was ill of a peculiar sickness which the physicians finally diagnosed as Addison's disease, a chronic fatal malady. The last stage of the ailment was especially painful. Death came as a relief, nevertheless his departure will be keenly felt not only in his family but in the community in which his service has been much esteemed. On Friday afternoon his remains will be taken to the final resting place; funeral services will be held in the Bethel church.

J. J. Janzen was born March 23, 1869, in Russia. He came to this country in 1879. He stayed on the farm until he was 22 years of age; since then he lived in this village. The first few years he was employed by Theo. Nickel, in his store. For about eleven years he was with the Goertz & Janzen Lumber yard. After this he had charge of the North Star Telephone Co. In 1910 he bought the Furniture and Hardware store of Mr. J. D. Hiebert and moved over the store building a year later. In 1924 he disposed of his furniture and hardware business, and since that time has devoted himself to the undertaking business,in which his son, Mr. P. A. Janzen, has assisted him. The latter is now carrying on the service his father so faithfully performed. — Mt. Lake View.
