JOHN J. JANTZEN

John J. Jantzen, son of Jacob J. and Susana Becker Jantzen, was born Jan. 13, 1892, at Ak-Medshat [sic Ak-Mechet} , Khiva, Asia. When six months old, he with his parents left Khiva for Russia where they stayed six months with relatives and friends. They then left for the United States and arrived at Beatrice, Neb. in March, 1893. After living here four months, they moved to Marion, S. D.

On Sept. 20, 1908, upon the confession of his faith, he was baptized by Rev. Henry Dick and became an active member of the E.M.B. church and later transferred his membership to the Bethel Mennonite Church.

On Sept. 23, 1915, he was united in marriage to Margaret Epp of Plymouth, Neb. To this union six children were born. He spent his active years farming in Turner County and spent his last years in Marion.

Since Thanksgiving he had been failing in health. On Feb. 13 he entered the Freeman Hospital and returned to his home after a short confinement. In the evening of March 17 he lapsed into a coma and his final request was granted at 12:15 a.m., March 20. He reached the age of 69 years, two months, and seven days. He was preceded in death by two sons in infancy and one daughter three years ago.

He leaves to mourn this passing his wife, Margaret; one daughter, Erna, Worthington, Minn.; two sons, Edwin, Marion, S. D., and Harvey, Denver, Colo.; two daughters-in-law; five grandchildren; one brother, Alexander; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Epp and Mrs. Corney Unruh; and many other relatives and friends.

Because of his faith and trust in the Lord, we are reminded of the verse which he left with us: “But as it is written, eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” I Cor. 2:9.

Funeral services were held March 22 at the Marion Bethel Mennonite Church with Rev. Hugo Mineral officiating. Burial was made at the Schartner cemetery.
