Laverne Jantz

Laverne Jantz was born on the farm home of his parents southeast of Carnegie, Okla., October 2, 1920, the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Jantz. he departed from this life on Friday, May 20, 1938, in the strength of his youth at the age of 17 years, 7 months and 18 days.

He was a bright and healthy young lad.

Friday, at 10 a.m. while cleaning a shot gun in the yard of his home, it was accidently discharged. He was killed almost instantly. The shot and the screams of the boy were heard by his mother, and his uncle and aunt who rushed to the scene at once. But his eyes had already closed in death.

He leaves to mourn his so early departure, his deeply bereaved parents, five brothers and 1 sister, his grandmother Jantz and Grandfather Dalke; uncles and aunts from both sides, and a host of friends. One little sister preceded him in death last July.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, May 22, in the Greenfield Mennonite church with Rev. Froese from Cordell and Rev. Hege from Gotebo conducting the funeral services. Song services were rendered by a men's quartet from Gotebo.

He was laid to rest in the nearby cemetery to await the resurrection morning.

Relatives and friends came from different part of Oklahoma and Kanss to attend the funeral in spite of the big rain Saturday night and Sunday. — A Friend.
